I went to
the Fashion and Textiles Museum in Bermondsey today.
Currently, the exhibition they have on is the 'RIVIERA STYLE Resort & Swimwear since 1900'.
This exhibition displays swimsuits, beach
wear and beach cover ups for men and women from the late 1800's to the present
day.
"Riviera Style brings together a diverse range of clothing worn in and by the sea. A key feature of the items selected is the importance of fabric, from early examples to produce the perfect fabric that didn’t bag or sag when wet, to more recent technical developments designed to improve fit and increase speed in the water."

Since one of my ranges is a brightly
coloured holiday theme I thought there may be something I could use to influence this range. There wasn't much - as it was
mostly beachwear which I am not doing - but
I did see some design and construction details and prints which were useful.
Floral prints and Wrap skirts. (below)
In the 1950's swimsuits were not made from stretch fabrics so they had ruching to create stretch and fit which allowed the swimsuit to stay up and in place.

Floral prints, ruffles and pleated beach skirts created feminine silhouettes (below)
Weird and wonderful swimming caps from the 1960's (below)
